Prof. Rekha Sethi is an academic, scholar, translator and editor. As Professor at the oldest women’s college of the University of Delhi, Indraprastha College for Women (estd. 1924) she has been teaching graduate and post graduate students for almost three decades, also having served as the Acting Principal and Vice-Principal of the College. Her main area of work is post-independence Hindi poetry and fiction, gender studies and media studies. Her professional experience with young adults as a teacher and education administrator, has enabled her to actively engage and make interventions in the particularities of the female experience.

She has authored 5 books, edited 9 and translated one. As a critic and reviewer, she has published reviews and articles in several literary journals including Indian Literature, The Book Review, Hans, Naya Gyanodaya, Samved, Poorvagrah etc. Her significant publication in two volumes—Stree-Kavita: Paksh aur Pariprekshya and Stree-Kavita: Pehchaan aur Dwandw is an in-depth study of contemporary women poets in Hindi critiquing and enquiring the connections between Gender and Literature. Her latest publication is an edited volume titled Krishna Sobti: A Counter Archive published by Routledge UK.

She has worked as a language expert and has been a resource person at training programmes and workshops in the field of Translation and Translation Studies. She has translated eminent poets including K. Satchidanandan, Lakshmi Kannan, Sanjukta Dasgupta, Mamang Dei among others. She is the Founder Member of Translation Artists, Poiesis-Society for Poetry, New Delhi, India and the member of the Advisory Board, Kusumanjali Foundation and Pashyantee Bilingual, New Delhi, India. She has been associated with the Katha-IGNOU initiative ‘Translating India/ Understanding Diversity’ and served as a jury member for the Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2022 in Hindi.

Dr. Rekha Sethi presents her academic work regularly among national and international peers. Some of the eminent international conferences where she presented papers were held at University of Lisbon (Portugal), Rutgers University (New Jersey, USA) and Imperial College (London, UK). She co-organised and chaired two web-lecture series with Dr. Fauzia Farooqui, South Asian Studies Program, Princeton University and Dr. Kusum Knapsyzk, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Duke University, USA, respectively. She is the chair of ongoing Smriti aur Samvaad series organised by Vatayan UK.
